The construction of a new £14m academy is due to start on site this month, with an expected completion at the end of summer 2020. Project managed by Acivico, the new Rockwood Academy on Naseby Road, Birmingham will support the provision of 450 additional school places.  The additional teaching space will enable the school to expand its intake from four to seven form entry; or from 648 pupils to 1,050.

Work will see an existing administration building demolished, to make way for a two-storey 2,200 square foot extension. There will also be a significant amount of refurbishment to the existing school facility, with several areas reconfigured.  The expansion will accommodate ten additional classrooms, a new library, additional science labs, a drama studio, extensive external landscaping and a new multi-use games facility.

Ryan Turner, Education Client Manager at Acivico said, ‘We are excited for the next phase of Birmingham City Council’s new capital education programme to commence.  The Rockwood Academy celebrates the launch of seven new schools currently in development and at delivery stage, totalling close to £100m in value. Investment in education is crucial to ensure we develop leaders of the future and this is a vitally important project for youngsters in the area. We are building a school fit for education in the 21st century and beyond,’ he said.

Acivico have provided multi-disciplinary services for the past nine years to Birmingham City Council, to support the development and improvement of educational facilities across the region.

Morgan Sindall Construction, appointed via the Acivico managed Constructing West Midlands framework (CWM) will be delivering the contract.
