Acivico’s values of supporting our local community stretch across the core of our business; and employees who deliver our services. Phil Newey, Operations Manager for the Facilities Management division at Acivico, has fully embraced Acivico’s values by personally donating emergency sleeping bags to local charity, SIFA Fireside. The charity strives to improve health and inclusion for homeless people in Birmingham’s City Centre.
Phil commented; “Homelessness in the city centre is more apparent than I have ever witnessed. Charity really does start at home and my donation was to support those individuals who are vulnerable, disadvantaged or experiencing homelessness throughout this cold winter period. I really hope my donation will contribute towards those who require support within their time of need”.
The sleeping bags, seven feet in length and three in width, are specially designed to reflect body heat for insulation and warmth through their aluminised PE interior. In addition to this, they are tear-resistant, reusable and are packed into a small drawstring carrying bag for convenient transportation and storage.
SIFA Fireside are a combination of two organisations, operating locally since the 1970s: SIFA (Supporting Independence From Alcohol) and The Fireside, which provided a place of respite for homeless people where they could access shelter and food. SIFA Fireside continues the traditions of both organisations, through supporting and enabling homeless and vulnerable people to take control, paving the way for healthier, fulfilling lives.
