Acivico has been successfully shortlisted for not one, but three projects at the RICS Social Impact Awards 2020. Recognising the built environment’s positive and transformational contribution to society, the RICS Social Impact Awards 2020 are the only awards to celebrate the benefits our built environment has on people’s lives. The Acivico shortlisted projects include The Washwood Heath Academy, Tilecross Academy and Centenary Square redevelopment.
With the site visits taking place over the next few weeks, the results are eagerly anticipated and due to be released at the award ceremony, on 30th April at the Chateaux Imney, Droitwich.
Working in partnership with Constructing West Midlands (CWM) framework contractors, Balfour Beatty CSUK and Morgan Sindall Construction, two Acivico projects have been shortlisted for the education category. Both projects have been constructed for the Washwood Heath Multi Academy Trust. These projects include:
The Washwood Heath Academy, Birmingham – A £6.3m new build primary education school on the site of the existing nine form entry secondary school. The brief called for a bespoke building; a one form entry primary school with additional seven classrooms for secondary school usage, developing the Washwood Academy into an ‘all through school’. The project was completed in January 2019 by Acivico providing full multi-disciplinary services and constructed by Balfour Beatty CSUK.
Tilecross Academy, Birmingham – A £7 million programme of work at Tile Cross Academy in Birmingham, delivering modern sporting facilities for the school’s 600 pupils. The contract consists of a curved two-storey 7,400 square foot sports hall, which also accommodates additional specialist art, graphics and music teaching spaces on the upper level. A four court sports hall, built to Sport England requirements is complimented with two floodlit 3G multi-use games area pitches (MUGA). The sport facilities are available to local residents outside of school hours. Constructed by Morgan Sindall Construction, the project completed in September 2019. Acivico provided part design, project management, quantity surveying and clerk of works services to the contract.
Providing multi disciplinary services to the third project, Acivico’s Centenary Square redevelopment, Birmingham, has been shortlisted for the land and rural category. Designed by Graeme Massie Architects and completed in July 2019, this flagship project is one of the largest civic open spaces in Birmingham and one of the largest natural stone projects in Europe. Providing city residents and visitors with a central place to socialise in, sit, enjoy and play, the project boasts a unique 1,700m2 reflective water feature, transforming this gateway into Birmingham from a place that people simply pass through, to an iconic space with a unique identity that defines the city.
