Construction works are now well underway on the new SEN provision at Saltley Academy, in Belchers Lane, Birmingham. Saltley Academy, a secondary school within the wider Washwood Heath Multi Academy Trust, currently has capacity for 210 students per year.

To celebrate the commencement of the works, a select number of students were invited to attend site to see the progress and learn from the construction team what their new building will offer.

The new 2872m2 facility will provide an additional 40 classrooms to the secondary school, allowing an increase to 270 students per year, plus an additional 40 in the resource base.

The project will also see existing green space to the rear of the school complex transformed to house a brand-new, purpose-built, two-storey standalone building. The project will be further enhanced with new multi-use games areas alongside additional car parking.  Further refurbishment works will be carried out within the existing buildings, inclusive of refreshment to the science laboratories and technology provision providing a total gross internal area, inclusive of change of use of 17,767m2. The school will continue to operate throughout the works.

Balfour Beatty CSUK, selected via the Acivico managed CWM framework, are currently progressing the contract with completion of the works anticipated September 2020.
