Following the Grenfell Tower tragedy and the Hackitt review of building regulations and fire safety, both local authority building control (LABC) and approved inspectors will be required to demonstrate their competency in the area of fire safety. This important competency validation has been developed by LABC in association with the Institute of Fire Engineers. The government’s implementation plan published in December 2018, confirms this will become a mandatory requirement, to enable the approval of applications and to issue final certificates for high rise and complex buildings.

Acting as pioneers for the industry, Acivico building control are ahead of the game. Congratulations to Edward Godwin, John Askew, John Diskin, Steve Elliott and Richard Cymler, who have all passed the gruelling LABC fire safety specialist three hour exam to demonstrate competency with both high rise and complex buildings. Further building control team members being put through their paces for the exam in 2019. (picture from left to right; Ian Briggs, Chair of Acivico Board, Edward Godwin, Steve Elliott, Richard Cymler, John Askew).
