The UK’s largest trade union is currently completing  a new 170-hotel, offices and conference facilities at Birmingham Science Park Aston. The new £35m development is sited on the corner of Woodcock Street and Jennens Road. Consisting of a seven storey hotel, the development contains 170 bedrooms, reception areas, reception areas, restaurant, bar and 45,750 sq ft of conference and meeting facilities. Adjoining the hotel, Unite’s new offices consist of 55,260 sq ft of offices to accommodate their 225 staff.

Clerk of Works Service

Acivico clerk of works team our supplying all three disciplines for this project building fabric, structural, mechanical and electrical. It is a unique structure consisting of concrete frame building and partial steel frame, with precast concrete floor planks to the offices and conference centre.

There is a complex installment of reinforcement with disproportionate collapse details, along with structural load spread around concrete columns.

Mike and Wayne are the Clerk of Works for the construction of Unite, the union regional headquarters, Aloft Hotel and Conference Centre, in Birmingham. Both are an integral part of the design and management team and are providing instrumental weekly reports on both the construction and M&E of the project. Their attention to detail and accuracy of reports are a focal point of ensuring the construction meets the standards required and is being built as per instructed. During their site visits, they often go above and beyond what is expected and assist with all queries, both professionally and swiftly, to iron out any complications or irregularities that commonly occur during the construction and fit out stages.’
