The event was held to mark the official handing over of the newly built extension at Moor Hall School in Sutton Coldfield. The town’s Mayor and Mayoress were in attendance, along with 80 other guests who were treated to a tea party in the school hall, musical entertainment from the children, and a tour of the new state of the art facility.
Acivico, working in partnership with contractor Balfour Beatty, designed and oversaw the project to create an additional eight classrooms. As well as delivering an attractive and environmentally sound building, the project was also delivered under budget.
Alan McBeth, principal architect with Acivico which provided architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical, project management and quantity surveying services to the project, was responsible for the creative and stimulating design.
“The extension has a range of innovative design ideas including the clever and thoughtful use of rooflights, lightwells and windows, to maximise daylight to all areas. The structure is clad with Siberian larch timber and is a very simple but effective concept revolving around a simple economical box at the edge of the sports field.
“Inside the box are eight bright classrooms with chunky bright red box frames around the windows to lighten the feel of the design in a playful manner – appropriate for a primary school setting.
“At Acivico we offer a full multi-disciplinary design services package and work with clients in the private and public sector. From the start of a scheme all the way through to handing over a final building we liaise with clients to ensure everything meets their expectations. We are delighted with the final outcome of this project and trust it will serve Moor Hall students for years to come.”
