On 8th March 2019, the pupils, staff and guests of Washwood Heath Academy celebrated the official opening and completion of their new building, with a grand opening ceremony. The whole team from Acivico was in attendance to support the celebration, having provided multi-disciplinary services for the contract, including architectural design and principal designer, project management, quantity surveying and clerk of works services.
Completed in January 2019, the building was formally opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony by Dr Tim O’Neill, Director of Education and Skills at Birmingham City Council. Also in attendance was Rt Hon Liam Byrne MP and Chief Superintendent Kenny Bell of West Midlands Police.
The new building provides a new primary education school on the site of the existing nine form entry secondary school. The brief called for a bespoke building; a one form entry primary school with additional seven classrooms for secondary school usage, developing the Washwood Academy into an ‘all through school’. The project has been completed by Acivico providing full multi-disciplinary services and constructed by Balfour Beatty CSUK, on behalf of Birmingham City Council.
